As a result of the China Digital Content, Applications and Services Mission organised by Austrade and AIMIA last week in Shanghai, Innovative Mobile Applications (IMApps) has signed an MOU with SmartTrans to provide live weather content, 7-day forecasts and 12-month forecasts to China Mobile customers.
SmartTrans, an Australian publically listed company, has developed the SmartTrans Mobile Telephone Platform which is a sophisticated software management system which provides a management tool for the distribution of mobile applications and other digital content including games, animation, music and other multimedia.
SmartTrans executed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Mobile for the provision of SmartTrans’ Mobile Telephone Application Management Platform to its mobile telephone user base and plans to supply IMApps’ applications to China Mobile’s users. China mobile is the largest telecommunications company in the world and has over 500 Million customers.
Under the agreement, SmartTrans will gain exclusive rights to the propriety algorithms developed to calculate highest probability weather conditions up to 12-months in advance. The agreement will see IMApps provide weather services for a number of key Chinese cities and provinces like Beijing, Shanghai, Shanxi, as well as the major tourist destination of Sanya.
IMApps offers custom mobile application development using next generation Mobile 3.0 technology and full suite ‘go-to-market’ strategic consulting services. Currently, IMApps provides advanced weather forecasting to the Australian market through Event Weather, which covers 19 locations around the country. The service combines complex algorithms together with historical weather data to produce a detailed weather forecast report that includes the predicted temperature, humidity, wind and rainfall at two stages throughout a chosen day.
Director of IMApps, Warren Barry says that the deal will cement Australian technology into a new platform that will have enormous reach to a thriving international market. “This is a really exciting opportunity for IMApps because it represents the first bold leap into delivering our innovative products to a large scale market. This agreement opens the door for IMApps and SmartTrans to work together in developing other innovative social or business orientated applications for one of the world’s largest mobile markets.”
“This unique offering is a valuable addition to the SmartTrans portfolio of products to be distributed in China and forms the foundation for future co-operation between IMapps and SmartTrans in what is an exciting and rapidly growing market.” says Bryan Carr, SmartTrans’ Chief Executive Officer.
